Dear Women, Survivors and Allies,
My name is Wiśa Wahośi Trudell. I am a survivor of sexual assault and I have invested my life in transforming trauma into healing and empowerment. I am an advocate for women, dedicated to helping women empower themselves.
As a child, I learned from a very early age the power of our voices. My father, John Trudell, Chairman of the American Indian Movement used his voice to advocate for Indigenous peoples. In 1979, as an act of revenge and in an attempt to silence him, my father’s wife and children were murdered. Tina and my siblings became part of the statistics of MMIWAR (Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Relatives).
As a child, I grew up surrounded by activism growing up in the American Indian Movement (AIM) community. While I saw my father as a voice for the people, I was raised by a strong and powerful mother, and Wildly Unstable Women LLC co-owner, Maire Athena. Maire raised me with matriarchal values, and set an example to defy the patriarchy. My mother told me when I was young, “No one likes a talking woman”, and then she showed me the importance of talking anyhow.
Maire Athena is a matriarchal feminist and lifelong anti-patriarchal activist. My mother has been protesting the predatory system since she was a child, and strongly believes in not being a “Well Behaved Woman”. Activism is in my blood.
In 2021, after using social media as a platform to discuss my surviving sexual abuse trauma, one of my abusers took me to court claiming harassment. My social media posts were presented in court to be used against me because I spoke about the realities and hardships of being a survivor. I spoke my truth. As a result, the court granted an anti-harassment order. In 2023, I was taken to court again, with my social media posts used as evidence against me again, and I was given a renewal for 5 years. I am appealing the court's ruling.
During this learning experience, I have discovered the true importance of using our voices and speaking our truth against predators and the predatory system; the patriarchy. If the voices of survivors were not powerful, the abusers and the patriarchy would not be so determined to silence us.
Wildly Unstable Women LLC was inspired when I was reading legal documents which described me as “mentally ill’, “mentally unstable”, “crazy", “obsessed”, and a “liar”, just to name a few. This name-calling is the blueprint all predators use to discredit women and their victims. Predators do not get to set our standards. So, we decided we wanted to take back the words that were meant to hurt and further abuse us. If the Patriarchy thinks honoring ourselves, speaking our truth, knowing our power, and standing up for ourselves and for others makes us “unstable”… then come be unstable with us at Wildly Unstable Women, where we can Harass the Patriarchy together!
Love & Support,
Wiśa Wahośi Trudell & Maire Athena Wahośi
